“There’s no business like show business.”
True enough. But did you know that despite all the fame and fortune enjoyed by a relatively few high-profile stars, the show biz artists with the greatest security are those who work behind the scenes to create theatrical magic.
Unfortunately, there are precious few places for young people to learn those solid career skills. Sharadin Bigler Theatre, which has always grown its own acting talent, has now made it part of its mission to provide that same golden opportunity for growth in the realm of technical theater. Young people of high school and college age will not only learn these marketable creative skills in a safe, professional environment, working closely with professionals in their chosen field. They also will receive pay along with that rare privilege.
Sharadin Bigler Theatre is currently seeking the following positions:

Technical Director
Lighting Technician
Sound Designer/Operator
Props Manager
Set Designer/Scenic Artist

Lighting Technician
The lighting technician is responsible for running the light board for performances.
Responsibilities include:
Attend all tech rehearsals to learn light cues
Run the light board at every performance
Perform dimmer check before each show and notify the TD of any problems
Perform start-up and shut-down procedures as specified by the TD
Reports to: Technical Director
This is a paid, stipend per show position.
Sound Designer/Operator
The Sound Designer/Operator is responsible for creating all sound effects and a mic plot, as well as operating the sound board for each performance.
Responsibilities include:
Attend production meetings to discuss sound issues / sound effects with director
Procure, edit, or create all sound effects needed for the show
Create and implement a mic-plot
Work during turnover to set up the sound system (including pit mics/monitors)
as required for the show
Work with actors to ensure proper mic placement / use
Attend all tech rehearsals to run sound
Turn mics on at beginning of night, de-battery at end of night
Perform mic check according to procedures
Inform TD of any issues with mic or sound system immediately
Run sound board for every performance
Strike sound equipment after the run of the show
Reports to: Technical Director
This is a paid, stipend per show position.
Properties Manager
The Properties Manager is responsible for designing, and purchasing or constructing all props for a show.
Responsibilities include:
Read script and develop prop list
Communicate with Director, Set Designer and technical Director to ensure appropriate props
Procure all hand props
Procure furniture and other set props at the direction of the Technical Director
Provide rehearsal props as requested by the Director, Technical Director or Stage Manager
Attend all Production meetings
Attend read-through and first run-through rehearsals to take prop notes, if possible
Keep and record all receipts.
Turn in expense report in a timely manner for reimbursement
Fill out proper form for advance, if needed
Bring in all production props when requested
Cover prop table and discuss all props with Stage Manager
If firing weapons are used, check with Technical Director to see that a qualified person will be in charge of weapons during run
Strike and return props in a timely manner after show closes
Reports to: Artistic Director
This is a paid, stipend per show position.
Set Designer/Scenic Artist
The set designer/scenic artist is responsible for creating/implementing the set from concept
to completion.
Responsibilities include:
Read script to determine necessary functions of the set
Participate in production meetings to create overall concept/aesthetic for show
Work with production team to create a set that meets needs of production/fits overall concept
Create ground plans, models, and renderings as necessary to illustrate design to production team
Work with Technical Director to create construction drawings, schedule, and discuss budgeting
Participate in set construction
Discuss necessary floor props/set dressing with props manager
Paint/Dress set
Reports to: Artistic Director
